1Agreement to these terms
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Purely Scan (“we”, “us”) about your use of the Purely Scan app and this website (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to use the Service.
2What the Service does
Purely Scan reads the ingredient list on a packaged food or cosmetic product from a photo you provide, assesses the ingredients, and gives you a grade, an explanation, and a view of how the product fits the preferences you set. It is a tool to help you make more informed choices.
3Not medical or professional advice
- Results are produced automatically by artificial intelligence and rules applied to the text of an ingredient list. They can be incomplete, out of date or wrong — for example a label may be misread, an ingredient may be misidentified, or a product may contain things its label doesn’t list.
- If you have an allergy, medical condition or are pregnant or nursing, never rely on the Service alone. Always read the product’s label and check with a doctor, pharmacist or other qualified professional.
- A “fits you” result does not guarantee a product is safe for you.
4Your account
You sign in with an email code or a Google account. You’re responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in methods secure. Give us accurate information, and tell us if you think someone else has accessed your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Account settings).
5Free scans and Pro subscriptions
- New accounts may receive a number of free scans. The number can change, and we may offer none, at our discretion. Free scans have no cash value.
- Pro unlocks unlimited scanning. It is a subscription bought through Google Play, charged to your Google Play account, and renews automatically until you cancel.
- Manage or cancel in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions). Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Prices, taxes, free trials and refunds are governed by Google Play’s terms and policies. We can’t issue refunds for Play purchases ourselves.
6Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service unlawfully, or in a way that harms others or the Service;
- attempt to break, probe or overload our systems, bypass limits or free-scan allowances, or use bots or scripts against the Service;
- reverse-engineer the app, or copy, resell or build a competing service from its content or results;
- upload content you don’t have the right to use, or that is unlawful or harmful.
7Your content
You keep ownership of the photos and information you give us. You give us permission to process them — including by sending them to our service providers — only so we can provide the Service to you, as described in the Privacy Policy. Photos are not stored after analysis.
8Our rights
The Service — including the app, its design, the scoring and the content we create — belongs to Purely Scan and its licensors and is protected by law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.
9Third-party services
The Service depends on third parties — such as Google (sign-in and Play billing), our sign-in provider, our subscription provider and AI model providers. Their own terms apply to your use of their services, and we aren’t responsible for them.
10Availability and changes
We work to keep the Service running but don’t promise it will always be available, error-free or uninterrupted. We may change, suspend or discontinue features at any time.
11Ending your use
You may stop using the Service and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or misuse the Service. When an account ends, your data is handled as set out in the Privacy Policy; sections that by their nature should survive (such as disclaimers and liability limits) continue to apply.
12Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that results will be correct or that the Service will meet your needs.
13Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Purely Scan and its team will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of — or inability to use — the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and a nominal amount.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or any consumer rights you have that can’t be waived by agreement.
14Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the place where we are established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer-protection laws of the country where you live still apply to you.
15Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We’ll change the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, tell you in the app or by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
